“Finally, a District Assembly we could afford.”
“I didn’t think I was going to like it, but I came anyway, and loved it! It wasn’t too short, like I was afraid it would be.”
“Thank you for presenting a joyful, educational and fun day!”
Who knew a single day could hold such a variety of workshops, an inspirational keynote, thoughtful worship, and still allow time for visiting and fellowship? A huge thank you to the staff and volunteers at First Unitarian Church of Portland for making this one-day District Assembly such a big hit.
We even had time for the annual business meeting. Delegates approved two new candidates to the board of directors, Rev. Carol McKinley (Olympia, WA) and Rev. Kate Lore (Portland, OR); one candidate to the nominating committee, Dana Regan (Portland, OR); and approved a bylaw amendment allowing District Assembly to be held during the first half of the calendar year, rather than being restricted to the first quarter. This means Alaska in May instead of February next year!
The board elected their officers for 2011/12: Elton Hall (Boise, ID) – president; Kate Lore (Portland, OR) – vice president; Dick Jacke (Bellevue, WA) – secretary; and Dave Cauffman (Freeland, WA) continues as treasurer. During his treasurer’s report, Dave announced that district dues will remain at $23/member for 2011/12.
Attendees who heard keynote speaker and workshop presenter, Dr. Ysaye Barnwell, undoubtedly came away with something that spoke to them. For me it was, “Everything matters, whether you want it to or not.” What a great mantra.
The nearly 500 registrants in attendance contributed over $3000 in cash and pledges to the collection for the Pacific Northwest UU Growth Foundation.
If you would like to share annual reports and business materials with others in your congregation, that portion of the packet is linked here. And don't forget to complete the brief evaluation if you attended District Assembly in Portland.
We’ve already heard from folks who are glad this year’s District Assembly was so affordable, because they don’t want to miss next year’s in Anchorage! Mark May 18-20 on your calendar for the 2012 District Assembly and celebration of the 50th anniversary of the UUA’s Pacific Northwest District. As details become available, we will post them on our District Assembly page.
Hope to see you in Anchorage next spring!
