PNWD> District Assembly > Highlights Highlights Keynote Bill Harley, Grammy Award-winning musician, storyteller, author and playwright. Children and families are held up and grow in a web of culture that surrounds them. Through song and story, Harley takes us on a journey through the common life and wealth we share, gleaned from over 30 years of performing and working with kids and adults together. Bill will deliver the keynote address, " A Life in Common" on Saturday, February 20, 9:45am-11am and also offer a workshop in Session One and an all-ages Saturday afternoon concert. “Humor is my weapon,” he says. CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS Opening Ceremony / Friday Night Worship Julia McKay, UU Ministerial Candidate, will lead us into the weekend with a joyful ingathering celebration of who we are as UUs. She will be ably assisted by Kathleen Tracy, Honorary Minister of Music at the Rainier UU Congregation. Join the District Assembly fellowship as we welcome our annual time together in worship and song. Our colors will fly in the traditional banner procession and our voices will rise - Let us shine! Friday Night Entertainment / Socializing Following the opening ceremony and worship service will be a no-host bar and social event in the hotel's Skyview Room. This is your opportunity to catch up with old friends, make new ones, or just relax after your travels to Bellevue . Entertainment will be provided by Spirit Hand, a vocal and instrumental group that performs an eclectic variety of music ranging from pop to folk. The group is very well known at the Shoreline UU church and has recently begun performing at other events within the Puget Sound UU community. Saturday Concert We are pleased to present entertainer and storyteller Bill Harley, who has been called "the Mark Twain of contemporary children's music." He uses a range of musical styles and appeals to children and adults with quirky, heart-filled lyrics. A two-time Grammy award-winning artist, recipient of the Magic Penny Award from the Children’s Music Network and an NPR commentator, Bill performs at storytelling festivals around the country including appearances at the National Storytelling Festival. Don't miss this opportunity to spend an hour with him as he entertains children of all ages. Saturday Night Entertainment / Socializing After dinner on Saturday night there will be another no-host bar and a relaxing evening to socialize in the Skyview Room. Exchange information and ideas about what you learned at the workshops, and sit back and enjoy the company of other UU's. Music will be provided by The Cascade Jazz Quintet from East Shore Unitarian Church . Led by pianist and flautist John Chmaj, the quintet is very well known at East Shore , having played at many events and services. Sunday Morning Worship Worship brings us together as one body, ready to go forth from our weekend of learning, gathering, and inspiration. We are grateful to have with us this morning our new UUA President, the Rev. Peter Morales, who will present his vision of our future. Music, which surrounds the words and invites us to participate with full voice, will be provided by Robert Kechley, Music Director at East Shore Unitarian Church . The Choir will include all those who wish to join their voices together. Let Us Shine and celebrate our great gospel!! District Assembly Choir Calling all choristers! You will again have the opportunity to join with the choirs from East Shore and Northlake and raise your voice in song at the Sunday morning worship service. The choir will rehearse on Saturday from 12:30-1:30 (yes, during lunch) and again on Sunday morning. |
